Adults With ADD…Who Cares!!!

Would you be surprised to learn that more than one quarter of a million (230,000) British Columbians are impacted by an illness and that the BC Government has essentially turned their back on these people?

Well, after the recent news about the BC ADHD Clinic’s decision to close their doors to new patients wanting to get diagnosed for Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, it would appear someone really doesn’t care, or is trying to save a few bucks. While many of the 230,000 BC people with ADD have been treated, the majority are not getting the proper treatment they need and now adults with ADD have nowhere to go for diagnoses. The BC Government will not fund this clinic, which is rather shocking! Thus, one quarter of a million BC residents are being insulted further for by way of a serious lack of funding for this very real challenge so many people face.

There is only one public clinic in BC that diagnoses ADD in Adults and Children. It is estimated that 5% of BC adults (150,000) have ADD, 8% of BC Children (80,000) are also impacted. With approximately 4 million people in BC, these numbers add up to 230,000 people with ADD!!

As stated by Global TV reporter Catherine Pope, “the waiting list is a clear indication that there is an enormous need. Brought on by the thousands of adults in greater Vancouver who have Attention Deficit Disorder.

ADD advocate and Coach Pete Quily has been outspoken about this issue and originally drew attention to it over a year ago. Pete just appeared on the Global TV News recently to discuss the closure of the clinic. You can find the TV interview on Pete’s site
