Program Your Brain Positively

There are so many types of programming. There is maticulously thought out planning behind TV programming by broadcast executives. We have computer programming, educational programming and the list goes on and on. A common tread that any type of programming takes into account, is a plan for success and positive thought.

So, why wouldn’t we plan for success and focus on programming our brain with positive thoughts? We’ve all heard the sayings about having a positive attitude and the power of positive thought, right?

When I started on my journey of dealing with Adult ADD, one practice that I started was to engrain or program my brain to think positive thoughts. There are many ways to accomplish this. Personally, for me the action of repetition is effective and I utilize technology with repetition. I will enter my positive thought or topic of consideration into my Outlook Calendar, which also synchronizes and loads the action onto my Blackberry handheld device. This action will occur every day as a reoccurring event. If I’m at home or on the road, I always get my reminder.

Examples for me include scheduling short phrase reminders to do things like;

- “take a step back” ( my reminder to slow down and think in situations where a quick response can deliver a wrong message)
- “detach from the outcome, to engage in the process or the now” ( my way of focusing on a task at hand and not thinking too far ahead)
- “smile today” ( this one is self explanatory)
- “take a break today” (my way of reminding myself to slow down and take a break, do something for myself, almost like a reward to give my mind and body a break for 15 minutes)

These positive thoughts and messages have become part of how I have programmed my brain. The repetition and practice of remaining aware of positive acts or tasks is absorbed or learned by the brain. Our brains are sponges for knowledge, so soak the sponge with positive things and you will become a positive person who accomplishes good things and people will enjoy being around.

Have a great day!!
