Get Involved & Stay Involved

I’ve taken a small hiatus from posting here for a while to enjoy the summer and focus on some fun with my kids. I’m back!!

Many ADD’ers have a common problem, maintaining focus during a conversation. The typical issue here is that dopamine levels fall in the brain when we are not involved or participating in a conversation.

During a recenct coaching session I had, the discussion came up on the topic of dopamine and asking questions while engaged in conversation. It has been proven that asking questions during a conversation raises the dopamine levels in the brain and helps a person with ADD to stay focused and engaged in a conversation.

I personally find this to be 100% accurate. When I’m engaged, I stay focused and listen well. When I don’t participate in a conversation, I struggle not to drift off and to maintain my focus. A great example of this is in a seminar, when the key note speaker talks for a length of time and you may notice it’s hard to maintain your focus. While this particular circumstance may not be the right place to interject or ask questions, it does serve as a great example of not being engaged.

Asking questions and staying involved in a conversation provides great results me, try it!
