ADD & Workplace Stress

Oh, the pressure! The feeling of “the man” breathing down the back of your neck, the urgency of hitting your numbers, getting the report done on time and the many other workplace pressures we endure on a daily basis do impact or lives. Stress is a killer, as we have all heard many times.

Workplace pressure is very hard on people. Toss in a case of ADD to the equation and the potential exists for a disaster! However, for anyone with ADD, there are many ways to recognize work place conditions that lead to stress and what to do to alleviate that stress and the impact it has on your health and life.

While telling your boss where to go may seem like an appealing solution to workplace stress, you’ll be gone quicker than John McCain’s bid for the office of President. In reality, we need to identify stress and then learn to manage it. Do you have any of these symptoms?
- Anxiety.
- Indecisiveness.
- Irritability.
- Complaining.
- Forgetfulness.
- Loss of self confidence.
- Argumentativeness.
- Insomnia.
- Rapid emotional shifts.
- Physical exhaustion.

Many of these are also common traits of ADD. Be aware of your stress levels and understand how you are reacting. Managing stress is similar to managing ADD.

So, recommendations? I’ve been on pills for Adult ADHD for six years and I recently stopped taking them. How in the hell do I deal with this stuff now? My mind feels like I regressed, but I’m more creative than I’ve ever been. Hard to sit down long enough to get anything done.

Natural remedies? I’m tired of repressing what I really know/want myself to be doing.

Sure, I have a few recommendations.

    1. Have a good read of my many posts on this site, there is a lot of real hands on experience about what I have done to manage the same challenges you face.
    2. On my site you’ll find an area on the right hand side to Contact The Authors. Click on the “Email Pete Quily” link. He’s my ADD coach and I highly recommend taking some time to hear what Pete has to say and what benefits there are to coaching.

While medication can be an effective way of managing ADD, I think an ADD coach like Pete could provide you with a different perspective. Good for you for being curious about the next steps and taking action!
