Procrastination Check List

The typical person with ADD tends to procrastinate, much of the time to the detriment of being productive in many different aspects of life. I posted previously about procrastination and after giving this topic some more thought, I decided to see what the good folks at Wikipedia had to say. According to Wikipedia, “Psychology researchers have three criteria they use to categorize procrastination. For a behavior to be classified as procrastination, it must be counter productive, needless, and delaying.

So, that got my mind in motion and I thought of a quick exercise that might help people work through the phase of procrastination. When an individual with ADD is challenged with a state of procrastination, ask yourself these three questions:

1. Am I being counter productive?
2. Could my actions or lack of, be considered needless?
3. Am I delaying?

By asking yourself these three questions, it just might help to create awareness and motivate you or someone you know to stop procrastinating and get on with the task at hand. If it helps, write the questions down on a post it note, tape them on your fridge or on your desk at work. Being aware of your state of mind and acknowledging it can help you to work through it productively.
