A Happy ADD Brain for Health, Happiness & Romance?

Since I started winning the battle against ADD years ago, I found reading to be much more enjoyable. Doesn’t matter what way you slice and dice it, I’m never going to be able to sit down and read a book for two straight hours. It’s not gonna happen!

However, with the many books that people read, I had an interesting one handed to me last week by a friend. The Mars & Venus Diet & Exercise Solution by John Gray. Yup, the same John Gray who wrote the #1 best seller Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. In this Diet & Exercise Solution, John refers to ADHD on a number of occasions and that got me thinking about the bi-line created for this book….”Create the Brain Chemistry of Health, Happiness and Lasting Romance”. Before you jump to any conclusions, no, I’m not turning this into a self help relationship blog. John Gray has written some good stuff, but also some fluff that makes me roll my eyes some times. However, I really like what he says about sustaining healthy brain chemistry with amino acids and other foods. It only makes sense that these supplements and foods would impact our brains and help with the battle against ADD/ADHD. I really appreciate your blog, because you are looking for answers to help your body get the needed nutrients to help balance your brain chemistry as much as possible. As more and more nutrients and minerals are leached out of the food we eat that is natural, on top of the processed food we eat as well–I think more and more people will turn to natural supplements for healthier brains. To help with concentration and a healthier body–yes–but also for the health of our relationships with others too. If your body feels good and in the best balance it can be, then you have more stable energy and are able to have healthier relationships too, b/c you’re not on a blood sugar roller coaster in addition to mineral and nutritional deficiencies as well.

Have you tried any of John Gray’s suggestions? Are you still doing them? You may be pleased to know he’s been plowing through research and working with other professionals from the medical, therapeutic, nutritional, and exercise fields to write a more comprehensive book in regards to ADD/ADHD than the one you just read.

I know for me now that I’ve been implementing the diet and nutrition suggestions since last November–if I do not have L-theanine, chromium, magnesium, or PGX in my body it definitely feels out of whack. I do his shakes typically 5 days a week (I still crave real food sometimes, despite nothing really being in it!), and when I don’t drink the shakes my body isn’t as perky, and my focus isn’t as good. And I tend to notice after I’ve eaten something, and my body becomes unbalanced. I commend you for what you are trying to do for your body without synthetic medication to treat your symptoms of ADD. It can’t be easy. My husband has even switched to drinking the lemon/aloe vera (with some agave…) drink in the morning instead of his tried and true orange juice from concentrate–and I’ve watched him as his body began to refresh itself and now crave the aloe vera & it’s healing properties instead of pure refined sugars first thing in the morning. Pretty neat to watch, as well as see how our already great relationship together has improved as well too. That could be from me no longer having a coffee craving in the morning too!
