Track 4 ADD radio interview with Jeff Hamilton Aug 05 cfun.mp3
8.25 minutes.
Tina talks a bit more about about some the good things with people with ADD. Nice change of pace from some members of the media who seem to only see the negatives of ADD and nothing else.
Jeff gives some examples of creativeness in his life related to ADD. I.e., once he got his ADD under more control he was able to pull his creative thoughts together in a more managed and productive fashion. Caller talks about giftedness and ADD.
Tina gives some names of people with ADD although some actually have learning disabilites not ADD. Jeff
talks about the importance of learning life skills relating to ADD, and benefits of exercise for ADDers.
One thing exercise does for those with ADD is that it increases dompamine levels in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that associated with ADD and it is also what ADD stimulant medications increase the availablity of. ADDers have less dopamine in their brains than others, some have even called ADD “Dopamine Deficiency Syndrome”. Two other important neurotransmitters associated with ADD are Norepinephrine and Serotonin.
I have a section on my 100 page + ADD resource website called ADD and Your Brain where you can learn more if you’re interested in learning more about the neurobiology of ADD.
