Jeff talks about his full page article by Damion Inwood in the Vancouver Province August 7th, 2005. They list some alternatives to ADD medications, and talk about learning specific life skills relating to ADD.

Jeff talks about how ADD coaching with Pete Quily has helped him and explains how the ADD coaching process works.

Jeff: For me the hingepin that pulled everything together and held it together was ADD Coaching. I utilized a fellow by the name of Pete Quily.

For me the coaching process was just fantastic, I grew in so many ways. Basically in the coaching process it’s somebody with an unbiased opinion who works with you to build upon your strengths and to help you build the skills around some of your weaknesses.

We would speak 3-4 times a month, and during that process I would have a preparation form that I’d have to fill out. I kept all the prep forms and the progress that I would work through on a week to week basis. Tina: And it was a lot of goal setting and that sort of stuff? Jeff: Yes, goal setting, review of goals things that didn’t work and did work, positives to build on, negatives to focus on. Tina: And ways to teach you to focus? Jeff: Absolutely.

Jeff reviews some ways to teach ADDers to focus.

Jeff talks about “take a step back” mindset in dealing with challenging situations. This is something we came up with that he found extremely valuable. I noticed he was able to apply it in many situations. It’s a skill that can be used by anyone ADD or not, and if you haven’t already learnt it, I’d highly recommend doing so.

One caller talks about her son’s experience with ADD in school.

One clarification Damion and I didn’t meet at a Vancouver ADD conference, but he called the non profit ADD support group CHADD Vancouver’s ADD information line. I’m a volunteer for CHADD Vancouver who answers that phone line.
