Getting Published & Attitude

As you may have read on this site and in the previous postings, we have taken on the challenge of writing a book. The book is called Pills Don’t Teach Skills, my journey with adult ADD (by Jeff Hamilton and ADD Coach Pete Quily). While the process of writing this book, the educational experience and growing process has been fantastic, I can’t say that the publishing effort has gone as well.

While we are very confident about the value of the book and appreciate the wonderful feedback offered by potential book agents and publishers, the hard facts of reality have set in and another lesson has been learned; even more work and effort to get published or to obtain a literary agent will follow. As I was feeling a little down and wondering if this book would ever hit the shelves of book stores like Chapters or more importantly just be out there to help others, I recalled the very first chapter of my book entitled Attitude. In that chapter is a quote by Charles Swindoll and it goes like this;

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company … a church … a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude … I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you … we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

So, after re-reading this piece of inspiration and reminding myself that attitude is everything, I am refocused, revitalized and even more determined to see that Pills Don’t Teach Skills, my journey with adult ADD (by Jeff Hamilton and ADD Coach Pete Quily) is published and used as a tool to help others. If you happen to know of any potential publishers or literary agents, a referral would be greatly appreciated.
